Ascesa
Ascesa was born in 2018 through a dream of four friends who desired to produce Nebbiolo on the terraces of Valtellina. Ascesa was chosen as the name because it means ascent, challenge, and the pursuit of the summit, perfectly representing the contemporary, essential wines born from a landscape that demands both sacrifice and passion. At the foot of the Alps, Valtellina stretches across the Lombardy region of northern Italy, in a remote alpine valley between Lake Como and the Swiss border. This remarkable valley, with a winemaking history that traces back to pre-Roman times, is home to Italy’s most extensive terraced mountain vineyards. Here, vines cling to steep slopes of predominantly sandy soils, producing wines that reflect both the purity of the mountains and the perseverance of those who cultivate them. The grapes are all grown at different altitudes and exposures, creating a fresh, eclectic Nebbiolo to enjoy every day. Winemaker Fabrizio Testa, one of the four founders of Ascesa, ensures that every bunch that ripens on the terraces of Valtellina is crafted at the highest quality. Fabrizio’s stylistic hallmark is spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel, which preserves the grapes' fragrance and the characteristics of each vineyard. The high altitude and rocky soils, as well as the dramatic rises and falls in temperature, help develop deep, complex flavors.
