Larkmead
Founded in 1895, Larkmead Vineyards is one of the oldest family-owned wineries in Napa Valley. Since 1948, the estate has been under the stewardship of the Solari-Baker family, whose enduring commitment to thoughtful farming and meticulous replanting has shaped the evolution of its historic 115-acre vineyard. Today, Larkmead produces some of Napa Valley’s most distinctive and age-worthy wines, rooted in a profound respect for place and a relentless pursuit of quality.
Led by Winemaker Avery Heelan and Vineyard Manager Nabor Camarena, whose combined tenure at the estate spans more than 25 years, Larkmead continues its legacy as dedicated stewards of the land.
The Larkmead Vineyards portfolio includes five prominent labels, each offering a distinct expression of the estate’s diverse vineyard. The Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is assembled from a range of vineyard blocks, bringing together all of the major soil types and clonal selections together into a single bottling.
The Firebelle Estate Red Blend is a traditional Bordeaux-style blend, anchored by Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The Lillie Estate Sauvignon Blanc showcases the remarkable freshness and depth of white wines sourced from the Northern Napa Valley site. Finally, Larkmead’s flagship wine, Solari Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, captures the balance, beauty, and breadth of the site while paying tribute to the family who has stood at the helm of Larkmead for nearly 80 years. Most vintages, Solari is comprised entirely of old-vine Cabernet Sauvignon grown on a mix of Cortina gravel and Bale loam.
Philosophy
The Solari Baker family has maintained a steadfast and unwavering commitment to land stewardship since purchasing Larkmead Vineyards in 1948.
After seven years of farming organically, Larkmead received its CCOF status in 2023. The estate received the Napa Green Winery certification in 2011 and the Napa Green Land certification in 2017. In addition, Larkmead Vineyards sits at the highest GOLD level of Napa Green certification because the vineyards are completely herbicide and neonicotinoid free. The estate has also been featured in the Slow Wine Guide, an essential resource of eco-friendly wineries that prioritize best practices for their employees, sustainability, and organic certifications in the vineyards, as well as the highest quality of wines.
