About the brand - MIHA

THE HUMPBACK HIGHWAY is a remarkable migratory path that stretches from the icy waters of Antarctica to the warm, tropical seas of Tonga. This natural marvel serves as a vital route for humpback whales as they journey across vast ocean expanses. Miha Sauvignon Blanc draws profound inspiration from the awe-inspiring spectacle of baby humpback whales, which grace our shallows with their presence each year. These majestic creatures have not only captured the hearts of onlookers but have also become an integral part of New Zealand’s Māori heritage, symbolizing a deep connection to nature and the sea that has been cherished for generations. MIHA SAUVIGNON BLANC mirrors this beautiful natural event in the spirit of a wine that seeks to capture the essence of this extraordinary migration and the profound bond between the whales and the land. Our winemaking process reflects this inspiration, with a focus on purity, elegance, and a deep respect for nature. Just as the humpback whales navigate their migratory path with grace and determination, we meticulously craft our Sauvignon Blanc to express the unique terroir of our vineyards. The fruit for Miha Sauvignon Blanc is carefully grown from our Upper Wairau Valley Vineyards in Marlborough, New Zealand, a region celebrated for its unique terroir. This picturesque valley, framed by rugged mountains and gently sloping hills, enjoys a climate of warm days and cool nights, which is ideal for growing Sauvignon Blanc. The stony, alluvial soils, rich in minerals, contribute to the distinctive character of the grapes, allowing them to ripen gradually and develop intense, concentrated flavours. The resulting fruit offers a vibrant expression of the land, with bright citrus and subtle tropical notes that perfectly embody the essence of Marlborough. At Miha Wines, we are dedicated to producing exceptional wines while upholding our commitment to environmental preservation and community support. As a SWNZ accredited producer, we adhere to best practices under the sustainability framework, undergoing yearly audits to ensure compliance. We implement sustainable farming techniques, such as integrating tractor operations by performing multiple tasks in a single pass. During winter, sheep are utilized for mowing, weed management, and reducing the need for chemical inputs, all while their biomass is converted into organic fertilizer. Vineyard prunings are mulched and returned to the soil. Our approach is to minimize the use of chemicals, applying them only when absolutely necessary and with great care to protect beneficial insects. Should insecticides be required, they are applied in targeted sprays with a strong emphasis on resistance management. This cautious use of chemicals aids in promoting vine and soil health while fostering biodiversity in our vineyard. MIHA SAUVIGNON BLANC stands as a tribute to the enduring legacy of the humpback whales within New Zealand’s cultural tapestry. Each bottle is a celebration of this incredible journey, honoring the timeless connection between the land, the sea, and the majestic creatures that traverse the Humpback Highway. Through our wine, we invite you to share in this magical spectacle and the rich heritage it embodies, savoring the flavors that are as captivating and unforgettable as the whales themselves.
