Quinta do Ataide
The historic Quinta do AtaÃde consists of beautiful organically certified vineyards and olive groves situated on 250 softly undulating acres in the Vilariça Valley. Originally acquired by Symington Family Estates in 1980 for the production of Port, Charles Symington realized its potential for producing DOC Douro wines and in 2013, an experimental varietal library was planted with 53 different varieties– a reflection of the Symington Family’s dedication to conservation in the Douro. The 200-acre AtaÃde vineyard has been fully organic since 2007. In addition to the varietal library, Quinta do AtaÃde now produces two table wines: Quinta do AtaÃde estate wine and the Vinha do Arco, both from traditional Douro red grapes. Symington Family Estates is a certified B-Corporation.
Philosophy
This is the first ampelographic field on this scale in the north of Portugal, and its objective is to safeguard the genetic diversity of the Douro’s grape varieties, as well as the study of their potential. Symington Family Estates is a certified B-Corporation.
