Wieninger
Austrian winemaker Fritz Wieninger grew up in the family heurigen (wine taverns), serving wines produced by his mother, who was one of the first female graduates from the Klosterneuburg - Enology Program. Today, Fritz Wieninger is the leading wine producer in the city of Vienna and is a champion of Gemischter Satz, a traditional field blend and a favorite wine in Vienna’s heurigen. Due to his consistent focus and pursuit of quality, Fritz concluded that biodynamic farming was essential to have the best possible wines. The basis of this decision was founded on the belief that healthy soil would promote natural vineyards that would allow flora and fauna to thrive. The Wieninger family cultivates their vineyards in the Nussberg, in the 19th district, and the Bisamberg, in the 21st district of Vienna, which is also where the Wieninger Winery is located. A wide range of wines results from these two areas, whose climates differ due to the separation created by the Danube River.

Biography
Fritz Wieninger grew up in the family heurige (Wine Tavern), serving the wines produced by his mother, who was one of the f irst female graduates from the Enology (Study of Wine) Program at Klosterneuburg. By the time he was 20 years old, Fritz was already gaining valuable and forward-focused experience abroad. After completing his studies and spending a year in California, Fritz learned about new technologies and wine styles. Fritz recognized that the route to success must begin with quality optimization in order to produce the wines he had envisioned. Today, Fritz has more than 30 years of experience and is consistently guided by the quality principle. He is considered a true pioneer – and in fact, is considered the prominent winemaker – of modern Viennese wines. This flagship winemaker goes far beyond words – his visions are always followed by actions. For example, he was a major force behind the revival of the Wiener Gemischter Satz DAC, a traditional field blend, and since 2018, he’s been a member of the Viennese Traditional Wine Estates association, which is responsible for classifying the Erste Lagen (First Layer) vineyards of Vienna.
