The Character

Tasting Notes At the time of bud break in late March, we had only received about 20% of our annual rainfall. Because it looked to be another overall low rainfall year, many growers early on adjusted their farming practices, including dropping fruit earlier in the season to keep the vines strong. Despite the drier weather, the ripening period that falls between mid-August to late October was nearly flawless. Long, warm days meant picking decisions could be scheduled without haste. Grapes patiently hung on the vines, waiting to be harvested at their ultimate balance of flavor, freshness and intensity. The Zinfandels of the 2021 vintage are simply transcendent. Seductive and precise with incredible depth and sophistication. Perfumed ripe summer blackberry, pomegranate seed, sweet spice and crushed violet candy mingle beautifully with sweet pie crust, almond paste and vanilla pod aromas. On the palate, this Zinfandel is energetic and multi-faceted. Details of fresh dark fruit and toasted coffee bean give way to a core of inviting, plush tannins and a long fresh finish. Despite its early accessibility, this incredible Zinfandel also will be generous in its enjoyability for at least 7+ years.
