The Story
Casato Prime Donne is the only winery in Italy with an all-female staff. The Prime Donne Brunello is the top red wine. Four highly qualified women, including English Master of Wine, Maureen Ashley, meet twice a year to decide the future Brunello Prime Donne. The wine undergoes regular vinification for 15 days with both pumping over and delestages. The wine is aged in small 5-7 hl barrels for the first year, later in 15 hl barrels, and finally in 30-40 hl barrels. The oak stems from forests in the Massif Central
