The Character

Overall Vineyard-driven, impeccably balanced.
Aromas deep plum and blue fruits, layered with cedar, graphite, and a subtle herbal and floral notes.
Mouthfeel Supple, expansive, remarkably poised.
Tasting Notes The 2023 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon opens with a serious and composed aromatic profile of deep plum and blue fruits, layered with cedar, graphite, and a subtle and soft herbal and floral lift of dried rose petals and sage. With time, a deeper aromatic core of black cherry and cassis emerges, accented by subtle hints of black pepper and cocoa nibs from 22 months aging in French oak. On the palate, the wine is full and expansive, yet remarkably poised for its youth. Supple, fine-grained tannins frame a broad, generous mid-palate, delivering immediate appeal while laying the groundwork for extended aging. The finish is long, layered, and resonant, with lingering dark fruit notes woven together with dusty, warm savory nuances. It concludes with a sense of persistence that speaks to the pedigree of our historic vineyard and the enduring longevity of our estate-grown wines. When Larkmead entered its modern era in the 1990s, the Solari-Baker family immediately recognized the exceptional quality and promise of Cabernet Sauvignon planted across the historic estate. Today, it remains the cornerstone of our wine portfolio, shaped by the remarkable diversity of clones, vine age, and soil types found throughout our 115-acre vineyard. With more than half of the vineyard devoted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Larkmead continues to define the character and potential of Napa Valley Cabernet.
