The Story

The Chateau Musar Rouge is the top wine of this iconic estate. Crafted from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, and Carignan, each vintage reflects not only the unique climatic conditions of the Bekaa Valley, but also the distinct style of the year, shaped by low-intervention practices and extended aging before release. While there is an extensive offering of library wines back to 1997, in summer 2026, the winery released the 2019 as the current offering. The 2019 has been hailed as one of the best young releases and will perhaps resemble the famous 1999 vintage in age-worthiness.

Across formats—from half-bottles to magnums—these wines reveal Musar’s hallmark evolution: youthful bottles shine with vibrant red fruit, spice, and savory earth, while older vintages offer deep complexity, with notes of leather, dried herbs, cigar box, and dried cherry. The signature texture—elegant yet wild, structured yet fluid—remains constant. A handy rule of thumb is that odd-numbered vintages tend to show more Cabernet character, more structured, powerful, and Bordeaux-like, while the even-numbered vintages show more Cinsault, silky, elegant, Burgundian.

Unfined, unfiltered, and fermented with native yeasts, Chateau Musar is a wine of spirit and resilience. This collection invites you to explore the layered beauty of one of the world’s great ageworthy reds, where every vintage tells its own story while echoing the enduring legacy of Gaston and Serge Hochar.
